Yes, your wisdom has made you very rich, and your riches have made you very proud. [Ezekiel 28.5]
What a curse upon the king of Tyre and what a warning to us!
I suppose wisdom is good, right?
Riches aren't so bad either, right?
These two life ingredients are dangerous however. While wisdom and riches can be of great benefit to their possessor and even all those around their possessor, they can also quickly and silently incubate pride in their possessor.
Wisdom and riches are gifts from God, but they do not make us God. But, the slightest human character glitch, left unattended in the presence of wisdom and riches, will blossom into pride. And, over and over the Bible is clear that the most detestable thing in the world to God is pride.
It is good to be wise. It is good to be rich! But all the wisdom and riches in the world are damnable if they lead to pride.
Humility should be the goal of the wise and rich. Humility should remain the number one pursuit of the wise and the rich. God never turns away a humble and contrite spirit.
Father, it is obvious today that humility is a premium character quality for humans...
