O LORD of Heaven’s Armies, you test those who are righteous, and you examine the deepest thoughts and secrets. Let me see your vengeance against them, for I have committed my cause to you. [Jeremiah 20.12]
Here is an interesting verse.
Once again, I make the case that God needs not to test anyone to know what is in their hearts. God KNOWS the hearts of all men!
Every time God asks questions (or tests someone), it is so THEY will know what is in their hearts.
I think this verse supports the statement above because Jeremiah talks about the "righteous" whose hearts are tested and immediately says, "Let me see Your vengeance against them..." Now, why would Jeremiah say that about righteous people? Because their righteousness was a facade! Oh sure, they looked good on the outside, but inside where no one but God could see, they were filled with unrighteousness.
God was not in search of information when He tested them - His test was, in reality, His notification to them of their unrighteousness (that He was fully aware of)! God knows our hearts!
Father, help me to understand Your character better. Help me to see Your character in the Bible as I learn more and more from it.
