One day a man from Baal-shalishah brought the man of God a sack of fresh grain and twenty loaves of barley bread made from the first grain of his harvest. Elisha said, “Give it to the people so they can eat.” “What?” his servant exclaimed. “Feed a hundred people with only this?” But Elisha repeated, “Give it to the people so they can eat, for this is what the LORD says: Everyone will eat, and there will even be some left over!” And when they gave it to the people, there was plenty for all and some left over, just as the LORD had promised. [2 Kings 4.42-44]
It may seem insignificant, but Elisha performed this miracle in a fashion similar to what Jesus did in feeding large groups of people.
Why?
As far as I can tell, Elisha was simply doing things God would do. Just like Jesus, Elisha showed us a preview of what it meant for the Spirit of the LORD to be upon a person.
It is not assuming for a person to do miracles in the name of the LORD because God works that way. Elisha demonstrated it and Jesus demonstrated it (not to mention others).
The difference between Jesus, Elisha, and just ordinary folks is that Jesus and Elisha understood the anointing upon themselves where most others do not.
Elisha desired and received the same Spirit that was upon Elijah.
Jesus stood and declared that the Spirit of God was upon Himself.
We today have access to the same Spirit. The same Spirit that lived in and raised Christ from the dead dwells in us.
What difference does that make?
Father, the difference in us having Your Holy Spirit should be evident in our lives. Forgive me for not walking more confidently in Your Spirit.
