But Jehoram followed the example of the kings of Israel and was as wicked as King Ahab, for he had married one of Ahab’s daughters. So Jehoram did what was evil in the LORD’s sight. [2 Chronicles 21.6]
Ahab was simply bad seed. Everything about this guy was bad it seems.
How bad does a guy have to be for his children to marry other people and make them bad?
Jehoram, once he was king after his father Jehoshaphat, killed all his siblings. Did his wife suggest he do that?
One thing I see is that evil is just evil. Evil knows no bounds. Evil is concerned with only one thing - self. A person consumed with evil is a person consumed with himself. Ahab was consumed with himself, his wife Jezebel was consumed with herself, Ahab's daughter was evidently consumed with herself and caused her husband, Jehoram to be consumed with himself. Their only goal was to protect their own interests - no matter what life it cost.
So, evil - wickedness - is strongly tied to self-promotion - self-preservation. There is a documented relationship between all things "self" and wickedness.
Is it not disturbing that today, in modern times, so much focus is placed on "self?"
I challenge anyone who reads this post to take a moment to consider all in our world that is done for "self." In contrast, I furthermore make the challenge to consider Jesus Christ Who laid down His life for the sake of the world. See the contrast?
We are to be like Jesus. Not Ahab!
Father, help me to rid myself of "self" and get my focus, like Jesus, on the preservation of others!
