So there at Hebron, King David made a covenant before the Lord with all the elders of Israel. And they anointed him king of Israel. [2 Samuel 5.3]
The wording of David's rise to power in Israel is interesting. I guess not so much the wording though as much as the timing of the wording.
Had not Samuel's words anf anointing of Davif not already confirmed him as king?
Had not Samuel's words to Saul not already confirmed that Israel was torn from his hands and given to David?
I continue today to wonder how things might have been had David taken his first opportunity to end Saul's life.
For what it is worth, I recall no written record of David having"sought the LORD's guidance" regarding his fortuitous encounters where he could have killed Saul (like he sought the LORD's guidance regarding the Philistines).
Father, help me to understand Your guidance. Help me to learn whatever lesson there is to learn from David - even if it is not what we have always assumed was the lessin!
