One day David asked, “Is anyone in Saul’s family still alive—anyone to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?” [2 Samuel 9.1]
Mephibosheth did nothing to deserve David's kindness.
Mephibosheth's blessing was the result of a relationship he had no part of.
Mephibosheth lived like a king because of his grandfather's and David's friendship.
In a very similar way, Jesus has extended blessing to those who receive it. It started because of a special relationship between Abraham and God. Yes, there have been times of trials and tribulations (like for Mephibosheth), but, the ultimate outcome is that we receive abundant blessings because Abraham and God had a relationship.
We had nothing to do with what went on between Abraham and God and yet, blessings have been extended to us because of Abraham. All we have to do is be "related" by that same faith Abraham had.
That same faith is exactly what Jesus came to highlight.
Father, help me to consider the blessings available to me because of Abraham. May my life, devotion and faith remind You of Abraham and, even more importantly, Jesus.
