Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did. [1 John 2.6]
Okay, there we have it. We are to live like Jesus.
Period.
We can't do this if we live our own life. We can't do this if we seek our own identity. We can't do this if we follow our own path. We can't do this if we do what is best for us. We can't do this if we look out for ourselves.
About a week ago, it occurred to me that I don't need God in my life. And, today, that is more clear than before. I don't need God in my life. I don't need God in my life. I don't need God in my life. I DON'T NEED GOD IN MY LIFE!
But instead, I need my life to be entirely immersed in God. Not my life, but His life. Not my purpose, but His purpose. Not my goals, but His goals. Not my family, but His family. Not my character, but His character.
It is not about me living my life as best I can with God's input. It is about me simply living in Him - His life - with every attempt to disconnect from my input. It is about me dying to any and everything having to do with self and living instead as Jesus did. He is the source of my life, not me. Apart from Him, I have no life (regardless what the world tells me).
I just don't need God as an accessory to my life. He is not just another 'accomplishment' or 'milestone' in my life! No! He IS my life - He IS LIFE, and I only find life (His life) in Him.
If I find 'my' life, I have missed God altogether. We have done ourselves a monumental disservice in even using he terminology, "My life." The life I live as a believer in Christ, is a life I have been brought into - it is not mine. But, I am blessed to enjoy it - free from the responsibility of charting my own course!
I am free to examine the life of Jesus and copy it in every way. I am free to the creativity of His Holy Spirit in acting like Jesus in His demonstration of Spirit-led variety. Jesus 'mixed it up' in the way He ministered to people because He followed the Spirit and the Spirit is not boring!
My only responsibility is to keep my eyes on Jesus - listening to the Holy Spirit. All my life's course and direction are up to Him. He has left us with His Story in order to know how He lived on earth. And, we have many descriptions of God and His character in the entire Bible to confirm Jesus' life as indeed one and the same with God.
Oh how we need to live Jesus in the earth. Oh how the world needs to continue to see Jesus ...in our lives!
I don't need to 'get a life.' As a matter of fact, "I" don't need to get anything. "I" need to give myself to God in the entirety of what I call my life so that I am seen merely as an accessory to Him (and not the other way around).
Father, forgive me for all of the wrong-thinking I have demonstrated in my erroneous assumptions that I have a life. I have no life but You.
