Then this message came to Zechariah from the LORD: “This is what the LORD of Heaven’s Armies says: Judge fairly, and show mercy and kindness to one another. Do not oppress widows, orphans, foreigners, and the poor. And do not scheme against each other. [Zechariah 7.8-10]
The directive presented here by Zechariah is not a new idea. It is actually repeated throughout the Bible. Jesus Himself made the same statement.
So, what does it mean?
Do we really need to ask that question? I think not. Zechariah 7.8-10 means exactly what it says.
Father, help me - help us - to judge fairly, and show mercy and kindness to one another. Help us not oppress widows, orphans, foreigners, and the poor. Help us not scheme against each other.
