Perhaps the people of Judah will repent when they hear again all the terrible things I have planned for them. Then I will be able to forgive their sins and wrongdoings.” [Jeremiah 36.3]
It appears there is something God cannot do.
The text above says, "Then I will be able to forgive..." When? THEN! Then when? When the people REPENT!
God cannot forgive where there is no repentance.
It's not a shortcoming on God's part however but it is a character trait. It is the strength of justice that prevents God from forgiving without repentance.
Now, for those who would cry out, "Grace!" right now, I cry out with you. And, grace is there, we do not have to make sacrifices of animals' blood along with our repentance to please God - Jesus is our sacrifice - but we still have to repent!
So, with all the terrible things going on in the earth today, is it not important enough to us to at least consider the possible effect of widespread repentance?
Father, I need this message of repentance until I am truly and thoroughly repentant.
