Observations

So I [the LORD] brought them out of Egypt and led them into the wilderness. There I gave them my decrees and regulations so they could find life by keeping them. And I gave them my Sabbath days of rest as a sign between them and me. It was to remind them that I am the LORD, who had set them apart to be holy. [Ezekiel 20.10-12]

I have no real definitive remarks today - just observations that there seems to be a distinction between God's decrees and regulations. I had always thought they were one and the same, but today it seems there is a difference.

Decrees (statutes, commandments) are presented in addition to regulations (laws, judgments, ordinances, dooms). What's the difference? I am not sure, but I will be on alert for clues as I continue to read the Word of God.

Another very interesting observation today is that God gave His Sabbath days of rest as a sign. This "sign" was to be a reminder that holiness was a God-thing and it was all God's doing.

I wish I could know more about this right now, but somehow it seems right to keep it in mind as I continue my journey forward in the Bible - paying particular attention to it as I come across it in different settings and contexts.

Father, give me eyes to see and ears to hear and a heart to understand the difference (if any) between Your decrees and Your regulations. Furthermore, help me to grasp the meaning of Your Sabbath days as they relate to Jesus' comment that the Sabbath was made for man and not the other way around.
