Daniel replied, “There are no wise men, enchanters, magicians, or fortune-tellers who can reveal the king’s secret. But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and he has shown King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in the future. Now I will tell you your dream and the visions you saw as you lay on your bed. [Daniel 2.27-28]
Nebuchadnezzar had made an impossible request. He had asked his wise men to tell him not only what a dream he had meant, but went so far as to demand they tell him the meaning without telling them the dream! He demanded they tell him what only his mind could know - he demanded they tell him what his dream was.
Impossible? Yes, BUT THERE IS A GOD IN HEAVEN...!
So, what do we do when we face impossible situations? Usually just give up I suppose.
Somehow, by relentlessly pursuing our relationship with God, we need to arrive at the point in our relationship with Him where we too would look at impossible situations and declare, " But there is a God in heaven!" (usually we just go to the doctor or lending institution).
We are faced with our humanity in this story. We are faced with our faith in this story. We are faced with the reality of our devotion to God (or lack thereof).
What DO we do when we are faced with the impossible? Go to the lenders? Go to the doctor?
But isn't that just wisdom? Isn't it just wisdom to see that our lack would require a financial infusion from those with the money? Isn't it just wisdom to see that our sickness or disease would require a medical treatment from those who understand the human body?
Maybe... But what about when the lenders say, "No"? What about when the doctors say, "Terminal"? You see, this is the litmus test for our faith - if the doctor says we are going to die, our faith is quickly revealed in our response: remorse says we believe the doctor, and "But there is a God in heaven!" says we probably didn't need the doctor anyway!
Oh, this stirs up such controversy! "But there is a God in heaven!"
Father, You ARE God and You ARE in heaven and You ARE capable of unimaginable miracles!
