Music

Elisha replied, “As surely as the LORD Almighty lives, whom I serve, I wouldn’t even bother with you except for my respect for King Jehoshaphat of Judah.  Now bring me someone who can play the harp.” While the harp was being played, the power of the LORD came upon Elisha, [2 Kings 3.14-15]

Here is a second instance where the powerful hand of God manifested around Jehoshaphat and it had to do with music! The common denominator in two separate events where God moved mightily were Jehoshaphat and music.

Jehoshaphat went down in history as a good king as well. Is there a correlation?

We can only assume there is. Well, we at least have to give it some serious consideration!

I am guessing the "music" was not contemporary pop music but music that was very focused and worshipful.

We know from the Bible account that when Jehoshaphat led Judah against the armies of the Moabites, Ammonites, and some of the Meunites, they sang high praises to God (for He is good, His faithful love endures forever!).

In the instance noted today, only a harp was played - we can only speculate what the music was like, but we know for sure it created an environment for hearing God.

So, when we need to hear from God or march out His power in our difficult situations, perhaps it would serve us well to consider music.

Father, I feel like You are telling me to include music in my life - music that musters Your power and reveals Your will.
