Can A Man Please God?

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer. [Psalm 19.14]

Not just my words have significance, but my thoughts do as well.

Even though most of us can control our words to some degree, I wonder how we do with our thoughts? Well, I don't really wonder for myself because I know what I think about and meditate upon even though no one else does.

Sometimes, I think, if it weren't for my thoughts, I could be a decent person!

Can thoughts be controlled? Yes, they can. But, not with human effort.

Thoughts can be controlled by the Word of God. Nothing else even comes close to transforming the human mind. The Word of God is the foundation upon which His Holy Spirit "takes the stage" of our lives.

I can honestly say that I have found more success in controlling my thoughts as I have focused more on the Word of God. The Word of God teaches me to seek His Kingdom first. His Holy Spirit bears witness with that. When I embrace the Word and therefore God's Kingdom, I find myself genuinely living by different standards.

Can a man please God? Yes. And, what's more he can know he is pleasing God - and that's a good place to be.

Father, I want to be pleasing to You. Thank You for providing Your Word - Your Story - that allows me to fulfill the will of Your Spirit and not the will of my flesh!
