That night the Lord said, “Get up! Go down into the Midianite camp, for I have given you victory over them! But if you are afraid to attack, go down to the camp with your servant Purah. Listen to what the Midianites are saying, and you will be greatly encouraged. Then you will be eager to attack.” [Judges 7.9-11]
Gideon's story is an interesting one. It is almost like Gideon had special grace when it came to his faith - or should I say lack of faith?
Between the deal with the fleece, and then this further "proof" God gave Gideon in allowing him to sneak into the Midianite camp, it was obvious that Gideon was not so easily convinced just by the "word of the Lord."
How did Gideon get by with the his need for proof?
I cannot say I know. However, I can say I know without a doubt that God worked with Gideon where he was. Perhaps Gideon's personality was one that was more inclined to understand how things work. Maybe?
Perhaps Gideon was unsure of his ability to hear God and just wanted to be sure. It doesn't seem that Gideon needed proof of God as much as he needed proof that he was actually understanding God correctly. There is a difference.
Whatever the reasons, I am encouraged today just to know that God not only worked with Gideon in his need for proof, but God also very much worked through Gideon.
Father, it is my desire that You find me willing and obedient to Your will and calling upon my life. Like Gideon, I trust You, but sometimes, I find it difficult to trust that I am hearing You. Thank You that You have always worked with me in this...
