God Didn't Forget

After Abimelech had ruled over Israel for three years, God sent a spirit that stirred up trouble between Abimelech and the leading citizens of Shechem, and they revolted. God was punishing Abimelech for murdering Gideon’s seventy sons, and the citizens of Shechem for supporting him in this treachery of murdering his brothers. [Judges 9.22-24]

In reading this story again today, it is quite obvious that it is simply not worth it to go against God.

Abimelech, the son of Gideon who had murdered his brothers, may have thought all was well after his murderous plot. And, three years is a long time, so Abimelech may have even forgotten about his evil deeds.

But, God didn't forget.

Father, help me to understand how sin affects so many aspects of life. Help me furthermore understand, in this Age of Grace, how Jesus factors in. Thank You for Your Son!
