Kingdom Thinking

“No!” David said. “Don’t kill him. For who can remain innocent after attacking the LORD’s anointed one? [1 Samuel 26.9]

David's understanding of the anointing is a lesson for us today.

Because modern society is so kingdom-dull, we have great difficulty in understanding kingdom protocol. But not so with David.

In David's time, people grasped the gravity of kingdom matters. David understood that the ceremony of anointing Samuel performed upon Saul (and later upon David himself) was significant. So significant in fact was the anointing event upon Saul that David refused to lay a hand upon him. David understood that, even though God had rejected Saul, the anointing remained irrevocable - what was done was done.

There is much to be learned and understood about this "kingdom" business. Again, modern societies, for the most part, just don't get it. But, the respect of the anointing we see in David, speaks significantly to much of what we see in the legalities of Jesus dying on our behalf. Not only does kingdom protocol explain much of the Cross, but it also provides the framework for us to understand Jesus' fixation upon the Kingdom of God in His life and teachings. Furthermore, it sheds light on our inherited Kingdom position and role in the earth today!

Sounds complicated, right?

It is. And yet, when we begin to grasp it, it is simple. However, 'grasping it' will take most of us a lifetime - and, only that long because few ever succeed in fully replacing earthly thinking with Kingdom thinking in their minds and lives. This could explain why we are so powerless in the earth today in contrast to what Jesus instructed us to be and do.

Is it not appropriate that Jesus taught us to pray, "May Your Kingdom come..."?

Father, I have learned enough to know there is much more to be learned. Help me replace earthly thinking with genuine Kingdom thinking!
