But the tribe of Judah could not drive out the Jebusites, who lived in the city of Jerusalem, so the Jebusites live there among the people of Judah to this day. [Joshua 15.63]
They [Ephraim] did not drive the Canaanites out of Gezer, however, so the people of Gezer live as slaves among the people of Ephraim to this day. [Joshua 16.10]
But the descendants of Manasseh were unable to occupy these towns because the Canaanites were determined to stay in that region. [Joshua 17.12]
Anyone besides me see a pattern here?
What was going on? Why were these tribes of Israel not able to take the land they were promised in whole?
I did not find any clear reason why Israel did not fully conquer these areas. However, I know human nature, and that is really enough to explain a lot!
What we settle for is what we get.
Father, help me to think about this little fact today. Help me to ask myself what I am settling for.
