A Sober Thought

When Joshua was an old man, the Lord said to him, “You are growing old, and much land remains to be conquered. [Joshua 13.1]

This would be a tough one. While getting older has its advantages, it also has its soberness - that reflection about what has been required in our lives compared to what has been accomplished. In many cases, like the verse above, much remains to be done.

The point that stands out to me is that we only have one day at a time to accomplish all we can in that day. We cannot lose sight that the goal before us is larger that what can be accomplished in a day however. This should be our driving force to stay focused daily!

In all likelihood, our life accomplishment will not be realized in a day. It will, in fact, take our lifetime.

Here is the problem though, as more time passes and we fail to accomplish the tasks we have been assigned by our Creator, there remains precious little time to achieve completion.

It is a sober thought.

Father, I want to accomplish that  which You have placed me in this earth to accomplish. Help me to stay focused - especially at this late hour...
