How To Cram An Eleven-Day Trip Into Forty Years

Normally it takes only eleven days to travel from Mount Sinai to Kadesh-barnea, going by way of Mount Seir. But forty years after the Israelites left Egypt, on the first day of the eleventh month, Moses addressed the people of Israel, telling them everything the Lord had commanded him to say. [Deuteronomy 1.2-3]

So, Israel crammed an eleven day trip into forty years!

We must understand that sin in our lives retards the plan of God in and through our lives.

The thing is, Israel thought they were being wise in understanding how powerful a foe the inhabitants of Canaan were. Based on "the facts" the majority of the Israelites concluded that entering the Promised Land was too difficult.

There is not a lot to say about this except that we should simply obey and follow God's direction as He gives it. Sin and unyieldedness in our lives will only block or severely delay God's intended purpose for us.

No matter what we think - reasonable as it may seem - we should do the will of God as our priority.

We really should meditate on this.

Father, I can't even imagine how many good things I have missed or delayed in my life through following my own ideas instead of Your direction and commands. Help me to simply obey.
