Dear brothers and sisters, I urge you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to join in my struggle by praying to God for me. Do this because of your love for me, given to you by the Holy Spirit. [Romans 15.30]
Pray for me!
How important is it that we pray for one another?
It is absolutely essential.
By praying for one another, we join in one another's' struggles. If one person is struggling with a load, surely just one additional person joining to bear that load effectively cuts that load in half!
We need to take this to heart. The church needs to understand this. Frankly, it doesn't even take large groups of people to accomplish great tasks when we comprehend the spiritual math of joining in prayer.
If it pleases God to answer our prayers for ourselves, how much more does it please Him to answer our selfless prayers for others?
The Kingdom thinking behind this is that if we are busy praying for others (and teaching them by our example to do the same), then we are "others" to them and therefore recipients of their prayer requests. This is why it is so important to pray for one another! It is simply unacceptable that one person does all the praying... otherwise who is praying for them?
We certainly have much to learn about prayer, however, this one principle is perhaps the most important: pray for one another. This means we must be sensitive to the needs of others and certainly willing to voice our needs to them as well. There is an economy to prayer.
Father, help us to understand how much others depend on the work of the Holy Spirit through our prayers. Help us to understand how much we depend on the work of Your Holy Spirit through the prayers of others.
