Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.[Romans 12.2-3]
Yesterday I mentioned earthly thinking and Kingdom thinking. Today, Paul's letter to the church in Rome speaks to that very end.
How we think matters. How we think matters a great deal. The second part of the passage above describes where we betray ourselves in our thinking. When we think we are better that we really are, we are in danger.
For quite some time now I have been fairly tough on Christianity (personally and as a whole) over the lack of faith I have seen compared to the early Church. But isn't it right that we all take a tough stance on ourselves as believers according to what Paul wrote? Shouldn't we be honest in our evaluation of our faith or lack thereof?
If we fail to see our shortcomings, how will we ever fix what is wrong or even just maintain what is right? If, instead, we only justify our powerless faith, are we not failing to be honest in our evaluation of ourselves?
We must change the way we think! And, that starts with humbling ourselves! Right thinking (Kingdom thinking) starts with humility.
Father, help me to change the way I think to Kingdom thinking. Forgive me for infusing powerless earthly thinking into my walk and relationship with You. Forgive me to living a miracle-less life and thinking that's alright when You are the God of all power and might.
