When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. [Matthew 8.10a]
What have we done to amaze Jesus?
In the case of the Roman officer, he demonstrated that he recognized Jesus' authority. It was as if he went beyond the complexity of what we call faith today, and simply understood Who Jesus was, and acted upon it.
But wait!
It was more than just believing Who Jesus was though, wasn't it? Think about it - the Roman officer didn't just believe Who Jesus was, but he believed that Who Jesus was directly affected himself. He acted upon it.
So many of us claim to know Who Jesus is. We sing songs about Him, we pray in His Name, and we learn much about Him through teaching and preaching. However, and sadly so, when it comes to acting upon all that we sing and preach about, we go to the doctor or buy insurance instead.
Yes, I went there. I went there because we overwhelmingly do NOT amaze our Lord. I mean, we don't even amaze each other - how could we expect to be found amazing to Him?
Father, I want to amaze You.
