If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it. [Matthew 10.39]
Here really is the essence of a life in Christ. The Golden Rule and the Law of Reciprocity (Give and it shall be given unto you...) are both fulfilled in this directive.
Life is not truly found until it is willingly given.
Life is not living unless it is giving.
Life is not in getting, but giving.
But wait...
All the giving in the world may be useless unless it is done "for Jesus." Jesus said, "but if you give up your life for me..."
Imagine that! Imagine all those who have given their lives on behalf of others (I am thinking of early American Patriots right now). Is it possible that the giving of life for causes other than for Christ is useless?
Father, help me to evaluate my life and my giving of it. Help me to understand just how precious a commodity my life is, and to be sure that my use of it is for Christ and Christ alone.
