“I want you all to know about the miraculous signs and wonders the Most High God has performed for me. [Daniel 4.2]
These are the words of Nebuchadnezzar. Certainly what followed was a story to tell.
In short, Nebuchadnezzar had a dream which Daniel (who had become powerful in Babylon) interpreted to mean that the king would go insane for a period of time. This, in fact, did occur and the event was being described historically by Nebuchadnezzar himself.
What interests me us that Nebuchadnezzar's insanity was seen as punishment. I wonder how insanity could punish (or humble) a person if they are "out of their mind"? Would that not defeat the purpose?
This thought makes me take a different look at mental sickness today.
Father, help me to look at everyone through Your eyes.
