These are the terms of the covenant the Lord commanded Moses to make with the Israelites while they were in the land of Moab, in addition to the covenant he had made with them at Mount Sinai. [Deuteronomy 29.1]
It appears the statement above was the conclusion following the Blessings and Curses for obedience to the Law. The Law provided the terms of the covenant - the old covenant - the Covenant of the Law.
It is so important that believers today recognize that the old covenant has come to its completion and that the New Covenant is now in place and offered to all. The New Covenant is that which Jesus brought to mankind and sealed with His own blood.
In all of Deuteronomy 28 the Blessing and Curses for obedience to the Law are defined. In Christ, believers may firmly stand on the fact that Jesus assured us of blessing and not cursing.
What's more, Jesus relieved God of His damning Justice. God's Justice made a place for Satan at His throne (because Satan is an executor of every curse from God - his job was to steal, kill, and destroy). Satan's access to God at that time explains why God would say curses came from Himself - Satan accused people and God relinquished the authority for him to kill, steal, and destroy based on covenant.
In the Old Testament, Satan had fallen only in position but not commission. He lost favor with God as a mighty angelic being when he rebelled, however, his role as server for God's Justice was legally intact. It would not be until Jesus Christ presented His own shed blood representing the penalty paid for all mankind's sin that Satan was stripped of his commission and cast out of the presence of God eternally. He now roams the earth, an unseen former entity who hopes we remain ignorant of his disgraceful fall and de-commissioning!
Satan no longer has the privilege of access to God's throne because Jesus is at God's right hand and all Justice, past-present-future is fulfilled in His blood. Satan was cast out of heaven and (as already stated) now roams the earth with one purpose - to deceive the world about the Truth of Christ and the New Covenant that renders him a defeated being.
It does my soul good to rehearse some of these facts.
Father, help me to remind myself of the fullness of Jesus' work on behalf of the world!
