“Do not make idols or set up carved images, or sacred pillars, or sculptured stones in your land so you may worship them. I am the Lord your God. [Leviticus 26.1]
I had to post an additional thought today as it was so relevant to me.
My original post for today was about how the curses for disobedience seemed to affect health and therefore wealth. But why did those curses come? Because of the four things listed above, idols, carved images, sacred pillars, or sculptured stones.
What is the common denominator with all of the things above? They are constructed by human hands with no function other than to be worshiped.
There is nothing wrong with humans constructing things that have function and purpose. However, when humans construct things for no other reason but to revere them, that is an entirely different story - then they are idols.
I wonder how many things we have made (as mankind) that serve no functional purpose but to be revered, looked at, or worshiped?
Just a thought.
Father, help us to rid ourselves of idols.
