Sin - A Bigger Problem Than We Thought

“If the high priest sins, bringing guilt upon the entire community... [Leviticus 4.3a]

Regardless of what we learn from today's OYCB reading in its entirety, the first part of Leviticus 4.3 is revealing.

If the leader sins, those he leads are guilty.

This should be contrasted to a few days ago when it was noted that the people of Israel sinned, but Moses confessed.

I can't say I have any profound revelation here today except to say that sin is a disease that affects everyone - regardless who commits it. We must view sin in this way if we are to realize forgiveness for it! It is all too easy to point a self-righteous finger at someone who commits a sin. It is rare to see anyone repent for the sin of another. However, this may be more Biblical than we thought! It is, in fact, what Jesus Christ did in suffering for mankind's sin. And, if we are to follow His example, then we will do the same thing!

I may be all wrong on this, but the thought is worth processing a little more. We are more associated with the rest of mankind than we may think. Suddenly, sin is a bigger problem that we may have originally thought!

Somehow also, my repentance for another person's sin is my way of forgiving them.

Father, help me to take responsibility for being human. Help me to understand that as a human, I am responsible for the actions of other humans...
