“Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorant words? Brace yourself like a man, because I have some questions for you, and you must answer them. [Job 38.2-3]
All God has to do is start asking questions...
The power of a question is amazing. And then, when God floods Job with a torrent of questions to which Job has no answers, it is well established that Job has overstepped his boundaries!
Job's answer-less position is important for us to see. It is important for us to realize ourselves that we, like Job - even in our current advanced state of knowledge and technology - don't have all the answers!
Frankly, modern knowledge has answers for many of the questions God asked Job (for which Job and the 'knowledge of the day' had no answers). Many of the questions God asked Job have been scientifically explored since that time and explained at least in some greater detail.
What questions might God ask to help a modern-day Job understand that God is supreme and that earthly man cannot match his strength or knowledge? I imagine God's questions would address the latest science of the day with its numerous 'gaps' in conclusive reproducible evidence. I can certainly imagine God would ask about the origin of life down to its most intricate detail. But then, perhaps God would ask questions about things we have not even begun to explore yet!
The fact stands: no natural-born human on planet earth has (or has ever had) all the answers. For anyone to think that modern knowledge negates the need for God only reveals that that person has failed greatly in his or her estimation of God. And that is exactly what Job did. At whatever point a person feels he or she has the ability (whatever that is) to call God to accountability, then that is precisely the point that person has grossly underestimated the vastness of God.
Father, even though we can actually accurately answer some of the questions You asked Job, help us to see there are infinitely more questions to which we have no answers.
