When Job prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes. [Job 42.10a]
Job was restored not when he prayed for himself, but he was restored when he prayed for his friends!
At the end of the day, as the story of Job goes, God not only deepened His relationship with Job but also with three of Job's friends as well. In fact, four people were brought closer to God by Job's ordeal.
As today is the final day of OYCB readings from Job, I find myself considering the moral of the story. Perhaps it could be this: When we face difficulties is not the time to complain to God, but it is a powerful opportunity to pray to God for those around us!
Even though Job was declared by God to be upright in both the beginning and the end of the story, it is important to see that Job repented in the end before he prayed for his friends. So, another good rule of spiritual thumb in times of trials could be to repent and then get busy praying for others!
Father, as I finish reading the book of Job today, I am grateful for the lessons You have given me this time through! More than ever before, I feel like You have spoken to my heart about the real issues of Job's story and helped me to learn valuable lessons about Your Lordship and Superiority over all things!
