Pause And Consider

When Noah woke up from his stupor, he learned what Ham, his youngest son, had done. Then he cursed Canaan, the son of Ham: “May Canaan be cursed! May he be the lowest of servants to his relatives.” [Genesis 9.24-25]

I have written about this particular passage of scripture before (a blog titled "Sin Virus" or something like that). As with that blog, so today, I question how the sin of Ham could or should be passed on to his son Canaan.

As I reflected on this question of mine, nothing became clear except that sin very much affects our children. Just this statement alone should cause any and every parent (or potential parent) to pause and consider it thoroughly. When studying the descendants of Canaan, it is also noteworthy that many of the "...ites" enemies of Israel are in that lineage.

Father, help us to be mindful of our actions and how they ultimately affect generations - even nations to follow.
