King and Priest - Kingdom-Speak

And Melchizedek, the king of Salem and a priest of God Most High, brought Abram some bread and wine. Melchizedek blessed Abram with this blessing: “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. And blessed be God Most High, who has defeated your enemies for you.” Then Abram gave Melchizedek a tenth of all the goods he had recovered. [Genesis 14.18-20]

As far as I know, Melchizedek represents the first mention in the Bible of any kind of organized religion. He was a king and a priest (interesting Kingdom-speak, huh?). He fed Abram and also pronounced a blessing on him.

As could be expected with organized religion, there must also be the subject of money discussed in order to support it. And that is exactly what took place in the way of Abram giving Melchizedek ten percent of the goods he recovered when he rescued Lot.

Father, give me eyes to see and a heart to understand as I encounter these stories I have read many times before so that I might see Jesus - Your Kingdom!
