Is it any advantage to the Almighty if you are righteous? Would it be any gain to him if you were perfect? Is it because you’re so pious that he accuses you and brings judgment against you? No, it’s because of your wickedness! There’s no limit to your sins. [Job 22.3-5]
Eliphaz sure missed it here! And, herein lies the point of Job (I think).
Job's three friends were intent on proving Job had some hidden sin.
I struggle to imagine myself an actor in this drama of Job's, but if I could imagine for a moment all that has taken place and all that has been said, perhaps I could better grasp the meaning of this story!
It seems to me that Eliphaz actually hit upon what was actually going on but discounted it! One must only remember the initial conversation between God and Satan in Job's story to understand that it WAS an "advantage to the Almighty" if Job was righteous! In the relationship and discourse between God and Satan, Job's righteousness was in fact the topic of conversation!
Whew! The story of Job is confusing, but I feel like I am seeing some light in it all!
Father, please help me to grasp the story of Job. I know there is much to comprehend, and I know my posts on this topic up to this point have revealed my ignorance. Thank You for helping me through it!
