Lead A Life Worthy Of Your Calling

Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God.
[Ephesians 4.1]

Lead a life worthy of your calling.

As I consider the meaning of this direction from Paul, I find myself considering my own calling and whether or not I am leading a life worthy of that calling. More specifically, is the life I am leading making way for my calling? Is the life I am leading conducive to my calling? Does the life I lead coincide with my calling?

In other words, for my life to be worthy of my calling means that my life would necessarily match my calling in deed, character, and facilitation.

It is futile for one to be called to a particular calling and then live a life that does not support that calling in every way.

In my case, if I am to be actively involved in local Christian ministry as a calling, it doesn't make much sense to be a travelling salesman and gone away from home all the time. The two simply do not make way for each other. It would be far more compatible to have a vocation that allows me to be home more and therefore available for local ministry needs.

So, which is more important to me: vocation or calling? It really comes down to this question!

Father, please help me to sort out my calling and my vocation so that my vocation is worthy of my calling!
