Kingdom Work - Love One Another

Dear friends, even though we are talking this way, we really don’t believe it applies to you. We are confident that you are meant for better things, things that come with salvation. For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do. Our great desire is that you will keep on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true. Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God’s promises because of their faith and endurance. [Hebrews 6.9-12]

In keeping with earlier 'revelations' that the Kingdom of God is about people, I found this passage in Hebrews today supporting that quite clearly. We show our love for God by "caring for other believers..." This is pure Kingdom principle.

What is really revealing about the passage above is that the writer points out that in continuing to love others, we avoid becoming spiritually dull and indifferent. In other words, if we cease proactively loving others, we will become spiritually dull and indifferent. And that sounds like "salt that has lost its flavor..." to me. Salt that has lost its flavor, according to Jesus, is good for nothing!

The beauty of caring for and loving other believers is that it requires no education or higher understanding beyond simple obedience to God to do so! However, it is as if in loving others, we find the intellect and clarity to learn more (avoiding spiritual dullness...).

Father, help me - help us - to love one another!
