He prayed more fervently, and he was in such agony of spirit that his sweat fell to the ground like great drops of blood. [Luke 22.44]
It is one thing to physically work so hard that sweat rolls off one's body. It is quite another thing to toil in prayer to the point that sweat pours off a person!
The kind of prayer that Jesus was praying in the garden was of an intensity that enveloped not only his mind and emotions, but took control of His physical body too.
I cannot say I have ever prayed with that kind of intensity.
Father, I want to take my prayer life more seriously. Help me to understand that prayer occasionally requires focus and work.
