And the Lord said to me, “Son of man, take careful notice. Use your eyes and ears, and listen to everything I tell you about the regulations concerning the Lord’s Temple. Take careful note of the procedures for using the Temple’s entrances and exits. [Ezekiel 44.5]
In a world of 'good enough' the Bible presents more than just one problem! With God, 'good enough' is neither good nor enough.
People have become so accustomed to 'average' in almost everything. Excellence and absolutes are rarely even sought after. Whether it is craftsmanship or execution of a task, the standard has become less than the best. Perfection has become known as a disease - it is called OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder).
It is my opinion that perhaps OCD is not so much a disease as it is a flickering remnant and reminder of a purely holy and perfect God. Without question however sufferers of OCD represent something very foreign to the masses. Any more, 'order' is only relative to its circumstance.
If God is indeed perfect (and I believe He is), how and why have we begun to classify a perfectionist human being as diseased? And, for those who would claim "grace" in Jesus, how and why would they so likwise discount the 'perfect' work Jesus performed that He consequently commanded His followers to imitate?
I think we should be careful what we call a disease!
Father, it is easy for me as one prone to OCD tendencies to advocate that a little more attention to detail should be given by others. Help me to promote You regardless - and not myself. Help me to see Jesus and Your love and character in every detail of the Bible!
