To Each His Own Merit

Then another message came to me from the Lord: “Why do you quote this proverb concerning the land of Israel: ‘The parents have eaten sour grapes, but their children’s mouths pucker at the taste’? As surely as I live, says the Sovereign Lord, you will not quote this proverb anymore in Israel. For all people are mine to judge—both parents and children alike. And this is my rule: The person who sins is the one who will die. [Ezekiel 18.1-4]

This seems straightforward enough to me. It is our duty in these times in which we live to assure ourselves and our society that this is true! Every person should be given the chance to prove his own character and not be judged by generations preceding him.

Father, as obvious as the statements above are, I know we still struggle with allowing each person to stand on their own merit. Help me to be fair and just in my estimation (for what its worth) of individuals I encounter in life.
