Spiritual Self-Check

I gave them over to worthless decrees and regulations that would not lead to life. I let them pollute themselves with the very gifts I had given them, and I allowed them to give their firstborn children as offerings to their gods—so I might devastate them and remind them that I alone am the Lord. [Ezekiel 20.25-26]

There are many things we have been given that are gifts from God. What we do with those gifts is very important. If we begin to worship them, we may just find those gifts to be our downfall! And, like the Law of Moses, there may also be a fine line between receiving and embracing God's gift (the Law) and worshiping it!

In other words, if the gift becomes more important than the Giver, then we have missed the point.

Each of us needs to review our own life to determine what gifts we have been given and decide whether or not we have made idols of those gifts (albeit God-given)! It really is a spiritual self-check we need to perform regularly.

Father, I know You have given me many gifts! Thank You for each of them! However, please help me to review my particular gifts to be sure I have not polluted myself by beginning to worship those gifts!
