Those too lazy to plow in the right season will have no food at the harvest. [Proverbs 20.4]
The more I read this verse, the more it means to me! This one little sentence can apply in so many situations, the obvious one being agriculture.
If however we consider "plowing" as "any work," the meaning of the verse blossoms into a variety of situations.
"The right season" is probably a key part of this verse as it indicates there is also a wrong season to do our work. The agricultural understanding of this verse requires consideration also in that the "right season" for one crop may be the wrong season for another!
Perhaps the "season" implication of Proverbs 20.4 is worth considering further! Is it not true that life itself progresses through "seasons"? Is it therefore possible that careers go through seasons? How about ministries, can they too cycle through seasons? Again, my mind is going 100 miles per hour right now...!
We must know our season in order to know what must be done in that season! How much futility is spent "plowing" in the wrong season?

What season is it?
Father, help me today to understand the current seasons of my life, career, and ministry.
