Self-Help Is A Farce

Oh, please help us against our enemies, for all human help is useless.  With God’s help we will do mighty things, for he will trample down our foes. [Psalm 60.11-12]

If I wanted to be like David, I would need to be able to identify my enemies.

Since I am neither a national leader nor involved in territorial acquisitions or defenses, my "enemies" must be analogous of something else.

First however, it must be established what qualifies someone or something as an enemy!  That should be easy enough - anyone or anything who wishes my demise in health, wealth, and well-being is my enemy.  An enemy wishes to enslave.  An enemy wishes to kill.  An enemy wishes to take.  An enemy wishes to destroy.  An enemy wishes to deceive.  An enemy may or may not be human.  An enemy may be an erroneous idea.  An enemy may be totally unseen and yet still as real as a convinced mind.

Okay, is the point now clear?  The enemy may in fact be me!

Now that the enemy is established, let's explore the potential help!  The help is not going to be human!  In other words, I will not be able to help myself!  Self-help is a farce!  Just because the enemy may be "me" does not mean that the help is also me!  I need help!!

As David found his help in the LORD, so we are encouraged to find our help in the LORD - in His Holy Spirit - as promised to those who believe and accept the work of Christ on our behalf.  It is not ironic that the Holy Spirit is referred to as the Helper in the New Testament!

I am not trying to justify a radical or foolish religion of the supernatural.  However, when our enemy is identified in light of the discussion above, what else can be the result?  When the battlefield is unseen but the defeat is tangible (death, loss, destruction), will not the victory (health, wealth, well-being) be tangible as well?

Father, I need a revelation in my spirit today.  I've been flailing wildly at an unseen enemy lately with no recognition of who it is (and therefore I have been losing the battle).  Help the tide of my own battle to turn as Your Holy Spirit takes rightful control of my life - my thinking - and establishes the victory won by Christ on the Cross on my behalf!
