The List of Indiscretions Is Long

About three months later, Judah was told, “Tamar, your daughter-in-law, has acted like a prostitute. And now, because of this, she’s pregnant.”  “Bring her out, and let her be burned!” Judah demanded. [Genesis 38.24]

In reflection upon my blog post yesterday, today's OYCB reading reveals yet more interesting facts in the lineage chosen to reveal the Messiah!

Judah played the role of patron in his daughter-in-law Tamar's prostitution!  There was apparently no secrecy in the fact that Judah had been with this 'prostitute' either.  And yet, Judah did not hesitate to issue a death sentence upon Tamar when later told she was pregnant for having prostituted herself.

Once informed of his role in Tamar's scheme, Judah then backed off the death sentence and Tamar went on to give birth to twin boys.  Perez, one of those boys, is listed in the lineage that would reveal Messiah - Jesus Christ.

My take on all this is that no matter how messed up situations get, God is able to make something good of it all!

Father, the list of indiscretions found around this particular section of lineage that would later point to Jesus is long.  It would be easy to discount any possibility of good coming from this family starting with Abraham.  And yet it was this very family through which the Savior of mankind was identified!  Thank You!
