Get God's Attention

Jesus sat down near the collection box in the Temple and watched as the crowds dropped in their money.  Many rich people put in large amounts.  Then a poor widow came and dropped in two small coins.

Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions.  For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she had to live on.” [Mark 12.41-44]

I don't know if Jesus intended for His followers, throughout the generations that followed this event, to practice what this widow did, but the point made here is profound.

Although no mention was made that the woman would be enormously blessed or that her action was a prescription for building wealth, one cannot deny this fact: it got God's attention!

It would seem to make sense that we should make every effort every day to get God's attention.  Not that He's not paying attention, but it still seems prudent that we would do whatever we could to engage God with everything we do.

Father, I want Your attention today...  I am reminded again today of a little child doing even 'silly things' to get and keep a parent's attention...
