Afterward the disciples asked Jesus privately, “Why couldn’t we cast out that demon?” “You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. [Matthew 17.19-20a]
Here's something one never hears in church or Christian circles today in response to the question, "Why?"
Think about it, how many times have we questioned why something took place and were given an answer similar to "...because God moves in mysterious ways..." or "because God obviously had different plans..."
I believe this is where modern Christianity sickens the heart of God.
Instead of admitting that, even just perhaps, we don't have enough faith, we immediately throw the blame for undesirable outcomes upon the LORD.
Christians really need to think this through.
Father, forgive me for my unbelief. I know that nothing but faith pleases You, and so I know that I have been quite displeasing to You. Help me to believe! And, when my faith fails me, give me grace to admit my fault in it instead of creating proud self-promoting doctrines and theology that make my faith 'failure' something of Your doing and none of my own.
