And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. [Luke 11.9-10]
It is worth repeating. This passage is worth repeating every day. Jesus taught clearly that persistence pays off when it comes to making requests of God. Religion is vague about prayer and whether it is answered or not, but not so with Jesus. Even the Apostles who wrote letters after Jesus' tenure on earth were more vague about prayer than was Jesus.
Jesus, on no uncertain terms, tied unanswered prayer to the lack of faith and persistence. It seems Jesus actually tied faith and persistence together as if they were one and the same.
Whatever we believe about prayer and persistence should start with Jesus. I would go so far as to say it should end with Jesus as well.
I suppose there are two things that Jesus taught quite extensively: prayer and faith. It would serve us well to pay attention to both!
Father, I want to pray and pray in faith and persistence! Help me to do so and teach others the same!
