Am I Missing Something?

For again I say, when righteous people turn away from their righteous behavior and turn to evil, they will die.  But if wicked people turn from their wickedness and do what is just and right, they will live.  O people of Israel, you are saying, ‘The Lord isn’t doing what’s right.’  But I judge each of you according to your deeds.” [Ezekiel 33.18-20]

This message from the LORD is a bit confusing.  The time of Christ (a.k.a. the Age of Grace) had not yet commenced and supposedly all are in sin.  Likewise, the righteousness of man is elsewhere declared as "filthy rags."

How is it possible, at any time in history and according to the message of grace found in Jesus, that someone could turn from their sinful ways to acts of righteousness and live?

Father, the message above that You gave through Ezekiel is hard to understand relative to the New Testament message and covenant found in Jesus.  Am I missing something?
