God Can Have An Agenda

“Therefore, give the people of Israel this message from the Sovereign Lord: I am bringing you back, but not because you deserve it.  I am doing it to protect my holy name, on which you brought shame while you were scattered among the nations. [Ezekiel 36.22]

I think this statement gives us a clear picture into the nature and character of God - how He looks at the big picture and not just what is at hand.

This statement furthermore lends understanding to Jesus' teaching about the unjust judge and the widow who was begging.

Sometimes, God has an agenda!  And, in that agenda, His people may in fact reap benefit!  In the case of the verse above, God was protecting His own good name.  In the New Testament teaching by Jesus the unjust judge was protecting his sanity (from the woman's non-stop pleas for help) in an analogy about God and His people.

In both instances, God's interests were served (and no human is qualified to question His motivation).

This is so interesting to ponder!

Father, I am so glad You have given us so many insights into Who You Are!  Help us to understand more and even interact with You accordingly!  Thank You.
