Immorality, In Jesus' Name

But now I see that the prophets of Jerusalem are even worse!  They commit adultery and love dishonesty.  They encourage those who are doing evil so that no one turns away from their sins.  These prophets are as wicked as the people of Sodom and Gomorrah once were.” [Jeremiah 23.14]

The prophets were the ones who were responsible to speak for God to the people.  But the prophets were not speaking for God and instead were making stuff up!  In fact they were not encouraging people to turn away from sin but to the contrary were encouraging people to do evil.

I cannot help but think of the current day in which I live where so many in spiritual leadership have given in to the pressure to conform to immorality and have begun to embrace the very evil they were originally responsible to denounce.

It is not ironic here that Sodom and Gomorrah are mentioned.  Yes, sexual perversion is almost always at or near the heart of the degeneration of a nation.

Father, I see the lengths to which You went to punish immorality in Old Testament times.  I cannot help but wonder how in contemporary times, you will deal with immorality done in the name of Jesus...
