“What have you gained by your alliances with Egypt and your covenants with Assyria? What good to you are the streams of the Nile or the waters of the Euphrates River? Your wickedness will bring its own punishment. Your turning from me will shame you. You will see what an evil, bitter thing it is to abandon the Lord your God and not to fear him. I, the Lord, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, have spoken! [Jeremiah 2.18-19]
It doesn't matter what alliances we have made or what insurance we have if we have abandoned the LORD our God. No amount of preparedness can prevent the judgment of the LORD from reaching us when we do not fear Him.
Father, help us to seek and fear You! Help us to study and learn of the history of Israel and Judah for the specific purpose of learning to live our own lives pleasing to You!
