What Is Faith?

O Lord, I give my life to you.  I trust in you, my God!  Do not let me be disgraced, or let my enemies rejoice in my defeat.  No one who trusts in you will ever be disgraced, but disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others. [Psalm 25.1-3]

Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow.  Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me.  All day long I put my hope in you. [Psalm 25.4-5]

I am amazed at Psalm 25!  There are powerful messages throughout the Psalm, evidenced by the two opening passages above.

The key to both passages however is trust - faith - believing.

But what is faith?  What does it mean to trust the LORD?  How do we believe Him?

It is my humble opinion that these questions are precisely why we are given a lifetime - for it is in a lifetime that one's journey helps him or her to better understand faith - to be able to reflect back over time and understand when faith was actually in play and when it was not.  In so reflecting, we learn to trust more and more effectively.

Or not.  Many never even begin to evaluate their lives by what God is doing and so live a lifetime learning nothing of eternal value.

Father, help us to look to You in all of life's situations and grow in faith by doing so.  Thank You for giving us so many opportunities to find and express our confidence in You.
