But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me. [Psalm 50.23a]
Here again is clear direction about what it is that pleases God. Giving thanks is never wrong.
It is no wonder then, why we struggle so much today to remain thankful. It seems thankfulness is the first thing to go when times get tough.
The fact that the Psalmist refers to thankfulness as a sacrifice tells me that giving thanks may not always feel or be a natural response to life's situations. In fact, giving thanks may be work - it may be the last thing I am inclined to do - it may cost me something just as any sacrifice would.
Giving thanks could be likened to working out... It is something each of us needs to do just like eating right and getting plenty of rest and exercise.
Father, it is a simple yet profound lesson found in today's One Year Chronological Bible reading - to give thanks to You as a sacrifice. Help me to understand what I have read today and quite literally self-prescribe thankfulness into each and every day! THANK YOU!
